Clearly, I'm a minimalist when it comes to Halloween decor and festivities. Regardless of how you celebrate I hope you have a HAPPY and SAFE Halloween!!

Tom Scheerer and Gramercy Park

It's no secret...

that I adore this man...his design mind that is. 

I've never met Tom but I'm sure I'd adore him if I ever have the opportunity.  Until then, I'll just have to make do with stalking his website. I check it out all the time to check on new projects or to see what jumps out at me. 

Today, it was this naturally sophisticated space he did at a Gramercy Park Apartment.

This room is stunning in its simplicity but I have to say one of my favorite features are those windows. Thank you, Tom, for not covering them up! 

And please tell me how you got so clever to use those three stools lined up as a bedside table.  I'm not kicking myself for getting rid of mine.  Don't even ask...I don't always make good decisions.

A Beautiful Partnership: Partner's Card + Honeybee

      

It's Partner's Card week in Atlanta and it's busy, busy, busy around the shop and about town.  For those of you not familiar with how it works let me sum it up:  Every year Camp Twin Lakes partners with over 500 shops, restaurants and galleries across town to offer shoppers 20%.  All you have to do is purchase a card for $60 (the proceeds go directly to Camp Twin Lakes) and you get to save money at a jillion places.  Not bad.  And, most importantly you get to help young kids who face challenges (ill, disabled, etc.) experience life changing camps and retreats.  I urge you to read more about this amazing organization if you have a soft spot for little ones! 

This Thursday and Friday we are partnering with Honeybee Collection (yes, again.  we just LOVE honeybee jewelry at Gramercy) for a trunk show.  AND, you get 20% of with a Partner's Card!!

Falling for the Season

Today wasn't a perfect fall day in Atlanta but I'm still "feelin" fall.  These sweet napkins speak to the season and the cocktail napkin versions are just too cute for words. 

I have tabletop on my mind because we are working on a very fun and exciting project/tabletop for the Atlanta Christmas Showhouse.  It won't be featuring these little numbers but they are just too fun not to share.

Happy Living

This living room makes me happy.  That photo gallery, that green lamp, that gorgeous wood coffee table, and THAT fabric on the sofa.  I wish I had the guts to use that fabric on my sofa.  Maybe next time.  I'm not sure who designed this room. If anyone does, please let me know!

Gramercy Gray

A question I hear at least once a week at the shop..."What color is on your walls?"  It's a great shade of gray by Sherwin-Williams called Lattice.  We have it at 45% and I call it Gramercy Gray.  Any piece of art you hang on the wall works against this color (and you know how we love our art).  There is a touch of gold in the shade so it's a "warmer" feeling gray than some of the shades that give off an unfriendly cold vibe.    Speaking of gray - how cool are these new pillows from Madeline Weinrib?

This might be my new favorite Madeline Rug.  And I am obsessed with this console by Bungalow 5, one of my favorite furniture lines we carry.  It's a similar look to those Chelsea House pieces featured a while back...

Love, love, love this reversible horse throw. Of course.  Don't have it up on the website yet but it is amazingly soft 100% baby alpaca for $390.  You can see the reverse side in the pic from the shop.  And, if you really want to have this for only $20 you can come by the shop and make a donation of $20 to the Doris Shaheen Breast Health Center through October 30th and be entered for a chance to win!!

"Between the Sheets" with Sarah Winchester

The Gramercy Girls have had the honor of getting to know the fabulous Sarah Winchester over the past year as she wondered into the shop after receiving a shower gift from here.  Sarah is a talented photographer, graphic designer and creative mind in general!  She's the one who took those amazing photos of the shop and she has now let us in on her secrets to staging a sensational bedroom...

About a year ago I got married and moved to historic Beacon Hill in Boston, and I wanted our first bedroom as a married couple to reflect both of our tastes while feeling more grown-up.



Do you prefer a serene space or a vibrant, colorful room?
Deep, rich, glossy colors are so sexy in bedrooms. This deep colored room is gorgeous.


For myself, I stick to serene, calming colors. I need my bedroom to be a quiet, tranquil place to unwind from the day, so I painted our bedroom Benjamin Moore Glass Slipper. It is this beautiful pale blue. Not to feminine or girly. It just feels like you are in a cloud.

What is your sheeting preference - white, ivory, solid color or patterned?

Seriously, it there anything better than cool, crisp, and soft solid white sheets. I love this photo of supermodel Daria Werboy’s Manhattan apartment. The sunlight spilling in on white sheets and linens.

Perhaps some color on the embroidery but should I spill anything on them (evening herbal tea, morning coffee) I want to be able to bleach the crap out of them!! We received a set of gorgeous Italian eleventy-billion thread count sheets as a wedding gift and they have spoiled us beyond belief. Once you sleep in sheets like that there is no return, although I am terrified to wash them on my own and have to take them to the professional cleaners to be washed and pressed.

Do you do a duvet?

I love, love, love duvets, wish a passion I normally reserve for Mexican queso dip, and the bigger the down insert the better. In the Sound of Music when Maria pulls back her covers right before they sing Raindrops on Roses…the comforter is so thick and downy. I dream of that bed. And for those cold New England winter nights, I even pull out two down comforters.

Who wins in the bedroom the King or the Queen?
If you have a king size bed there is no going back, especially once married. My hubby is a former college linebacker and I’d like to thank our wonderful, comfy king bed in part for making our first year of marriage so wonderful. We even did Christmas morning in bed; presents, kitty, coffee the whole thing. It is my favorite place in the house.

What is your decorative pillow preference?
I love Euro shams, but haven’t figured out how the work in a king bed. We have two king shams, two king pillow cases and two standard pillows for décor (basically because I love my Dwell Studios bird duvet and sham set from my old, pre-marriage queen bed.) We are kind of on pillow overload, but I love it.

Skirting the issue - do you or don't you?

I much prefer a bed and headboard to take care of the bed skirt issue. No fussy bed skirts just the clean lines of the bed. Our bed is actually from IKEA and works great.   Would love to upgrade one day to a gorgeous nail head trim bed, but for now the IKEA bed is a great inexpensive option.

Pets in the bed?

Magnolia wouldn’t have it any other way.

Lighting - are you matchy or mix and match?

I felt so adult the day I got matching bedside table lamps. They just say, hey, this is a grown-up’s bed, now you kids knock it off, we’re trying to sleep!

Bedside tables - (matching, round, desk, etc.)?

Matching bedside table for matching lamps. Again, as a newlywed couple wanting a little more grown up feel matching bedside table were on my wish list and IKEA offered another inexpensive solution. A fabulous antique chest of drawers and a round table would make a cool mismatched bedside table option, but I feel mismatched pieces must have history and a story.

Is the TV a "turn on" or "turn off"?

I can have trouble falling to sleep sometimes and TV is the number one no-no for people with sleeping problems. I should probably extended that to my laptop, but baby steps.

Do you have any other fun features to share?

We live in an old single-family brown stone built in 1825. It has since been chopped up in to 4 apartments with each apartment having an entire floor. That means we have two working fireplaces, with one of them in the bedroom! There is nothing more wonderful that a fire in the bedroom on a Boston winter night. The change of city and weather has been an adjustment, which is why I was so particular about making our bedroom a little sanctuary from the city. The only thing better than a fireplace in the bedroom would be a bedroom with a view on the ocean. Falling asleep to crashing waves is the ultimate.

Having an Art Attack

Right now I'm sitting in my living room and staring at lots of blank walls.  Craving some new art to adorn them.  Good thing our friends at Huff Harrington loan us lots of beautiful art to hang at the shop to provide some serious inspiration.  The new series by Liz Barber is fun and quite a surprise change from her previous work.  I love the soothing colors in Water Rings and the combination of texture and colors of the one below.

Dream vs. Reality

This is a dream closet for me - white, light, organized. 

But, this is my current reality:

Between lots of stuff going on at the shop, moving and getting sick I have been far from organized.  I have been struggling!  Fortunately, my dear sweet mom hopped on a plane to come to my rescue.  

Sorry I've been so out of touch. I'm on the mend and will be back to the blog world really soon!!!
